About me
I am a former head of a pupil referral unit and I'm now working with vulnerable families as a nonviolent resistance practitioner (NVR), where child to parent violence is a feature. I continue to maintain an interest in exclusions and have just completed a professional doctorate on the effects of exclusion on parents of children excluded from school. My study explores the historical, political and ideological factors that have impeded real change in exclusions, and why I believe this will continue to be the case without addressing the whole school system. I am exploring how NVR could become a model for schools to adapt to support the most vulnerable in their schools.
It is often the case that families I work with have no school placements as mainstream schools cannot meet their needs and/or there may be no specialist school placement available.
